About me

My goal, both in and out of the classroom, is to improve daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly as an educator and bring students to levels of success in all areas of life, not just mathematics.  I want to inspire those students who have just gone through the motions to truly take control of their learning and realize that anything is possible if they set their minds to it and are willing to put forth the time, effort, and hard work required to succeed.    I want to make math both meaningful and memorable for my students.   I use technology to make class time more enjoyable, engaging, and effective for my students.

Culminating Views on Assessment: Prioritizing Learning, Not Testing

Image
Claims that testing will serve equity very often aren’t true! I will explain why. I have attended lately a very valuable course "Assessment Strategies" as part of my doctorate degree at ACE, and here are my culminating views on assessment.  Developing equitable assessment practices requires starting over, with up-to-date research on teaching and learning. I would like to provide a new vision of assessment integrated with instruction for the sole purpose of supporting learning—not ranking students, teachers, or schools. I will explain how ambitious teaching practices, framed by sociocultural theory, are essentially one and the same as equitable assessment practices (Shepard, 2019). I will begin with a summary of the outmoded beliefs about learning and motivation underlying our current accountability systems. At the end of this blog post, I will address what teachers need from district leaders and higher-level policymakers. Why are Standards Assessment Required? ...

Reflection on The Use of Blogging

Image
💭All the topics are related to this course's weekly discussions and assignments. please review and let me know your thoughts.  I love writing and keeping a private diary. But when I read that we need to maintain a blog on a weekly basis, I was not sure if I can do that. At first, it was really terrifying. My entire reason for keeping a private diary was to reflect in private. The idea of sharing my ideas with everyone on the web meant opening myself up to more scrutiny and critique than I’d ever faced. But most of all, it meant sharing myself with the world. I’d barely been comfortable sharing myself with myself. How could I possibly share it with others? I quickly learned that I wasn’t sharing myself with all that many people.  I feel now safer to share more and write more. And after about 9 weeks, I feel like I can write regularly, share my ideas, and I can learn an incredible amount from people’s reactions. However, there is one thing I don’t like about...

What is Geocaching? How it Works and What You Find

Image
Geocaches are found all over the world and provide a free, fun family treasure hunt and hours of entertainment, but what is it, how does it work, and what do you find? This is our topic for this week. Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity that involves using GPS devices to locate hidden containers. Some caches even require the geocacher to solve puzzles. Geocaching is a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, families, clubs, or groups. The first geocache was hidden in 2000, in the state of Oregon. The game became increasingly popular after the improved accuracy of GPS technology. Now there are millions of geocaches hidden all over the world. It’s all about the hunt. We are not in search of the Holy Grail or some ridiculously expensive historic stash of golden artifacts. Geocaching is a virtual treasure hunt that meets somewhere at the corner of Indiana Jones and National Treasure. It is free entertainment and totally addictive! People still a...

A Quick Review for Articulate Rise 360’s Accessibility and Limitations

Image
In case if you never used it, Articulate Rise 360 is a web-based authoring tool included as part of an Articulate 360 update released around the end of 2016. There are a range of prebuilt lesson types, custom learning called “blocks,” interactions, and screencasts to create a range of courses. Rise 360 has prioritized ease of content creation over customization. It lets anyone create basic eLearning courses with a degree of polish. But highly skilled learning designers may feel frustrated by the level of flexibility to create unique designs, compared to tools like Storyline or Elucidat. While I like how it is user-friendly and easy to set up different items, I really wish there were more options within the program. I got the chance to use it differently this week and create an about me course! I have used it previously during my EdD course and Graduate Assisstanceship courses. Therefore, I got the chance to evaluate it again. Let me share my dashboard with you (picture below): In terms...
